The grandchildren of Italian immigrants, Mike Sottile was born in South Carolina and raised on the Isle of Palms. Mike attended college prior to entering the United States Air Force in 1968 where he served for 4 years in active duty. Upon completing another 2 years in the Air Force Reserves, Mike returned to Charleston County where he attended the Baptist College of Charleston, now known as Charleston Southern University.
Mike met the love of his life, Loraine, on a blind date in 1975 and they later married in 1977. Throughout their 38 years of marriage Mike and Loraine have continued to call District 112 home. Mike and Loraine have one adult daughter who resides in Mount Pleasant.
Mike entered the insurance business in 1972 and retired in 2015 after 43 years in the industry. It was during this time Mike entered public service in 1990 where he served on the Isle of Palms City Council following the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. In 2000, Mike’s neighbors then elected him to serve as their Mayor – a position held until 2008. Mike was elected in 2008 to the SC House of Representatives where he has continued to serve you in House District 112.
Mike was appointed to the House Labor Commerce and Industry Committee and in 2016 was appointed Chairman of the Insurance Subcommittee where he uses his decades of insurance industry knowledge to protect taxpayers in District 112 and across our state.
In his spare time Mike enjoys working in his yard and makes good use of his outdoor grill.
