Growing up East of the Cooper

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

My family is thrilled to be a part of this dynamic community during an exciting time of growth. I am fortunate to have been born and raised on the Isle of Palms; to have memories of picking blackberries in the sand dunes with my best friend, exploring the salt marshes, crabbing along the shoreline, searching for sand dollars with our toes under the ever protective watch of the Sullivan’s Island Light house, and playing beneath our gorgeous oak trees drizzled in Spanish moss. It is because of these amazing memories that I recognize the importance of protecting our greatest assets, the beaches and wetlands and all of their inhabitants. It is the opportunity to experience the same such memories that bring repeat leisure guests to our community and permanent residents to our beloved East Cooper.

As we share our treasures with our new neighbors and vacation guests, we must strive not only to protect our beaches and wetlands, but provide the appropriate infrastructure to make daily life East of the Cooper feel more like we’re on “island time” than in the hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan lifestyle…

If you will indulge me, I would like to take this opportunity to send a personal note to my father. Dad, thank you for never leaving East of the Cooper, for providing me with a love for the natural habitat, the innocent fun of enjoying the beach, boating in our waterways, fishing, and most importantly for attending every single softball game that I ever played- without being late even though you had a full time job and took care of City business. Dad, you have instilled a love for the Lowcountry in me that I labor tirelessly to ensure our leisure guests and neighbors can feel as well. I could only be so blessed as to be able to provide the same memories and dedication for my own future family. Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, and Isle of Palms residents are fortunate to have a gentleman with such a strong love for this place in a position to represent their best interests… you’ve never once let me down.

Best,
Amy Sottile

It’s obvious that you are extremely proud of your father and all of his achievements. You were truly a lucky girl to grow up on such a beautiful island.

Good luck to you and your father during his campaign.
